Southern Cross University [SCU]

Welcome to SCU

Professor Peter Lee, Vice Chancellor, SCUWelcome to the Southern Cross University website. Here you will find a wealth of information about our courses, research, staff, facilities and services.

Our vibrant, regional campuses are situated on the North and Mid North Coast of New South Wales, Australia, at Lismore, Coffs Harbour, Tweed Heads and soon at the southern Gold Coast.

Students from more than sixty countries around the world are attracted to study at our campuses which offer an exceptional quality of life as well as a contemporary and high quality learning experience. Many of our degrees are also offered by distance education.

Southern Cross University has a dynamic research profile, participating in eight National Co-operative Research Centres, leading the way in disciplines as diverse as plant genetics and cetacean research.

The University is an active participant in the lives of its communities, helping our regions to better understand themselves and inform decision-making for the future.

Take the time to explore this website and I look forward to welcoming you to the Southern Cross University student and alumni community.

Griffith University [GRIFFITH]

Griffith University [GRIFFITH]

About Griffith

Griffith University is regarded as one of Australia's most innovative tertiary institutions and one of the Asia-Pacific region's most influential universities. Griffith prepares future leaders equipped to manage tomorrow's global issues.

Since opening its doors in 1971, Griffith has pioneered many innovations - offering Australia's first environmental science and Asian studies degrees, and being the first Australian business school to sign the United Nations principles of responsible management education to name a few.

Griffith's Research and Teaching strengths1 cover many hot button issues - health, water and the environment alongside Asian politics and trade, sustainable tourism, criminology, and music and the arts.

The University's strong international standing is built on highly-regarded research and teaching staff, international partnerships and the calibre of its programs and graduates.

Griffith's long-standing national and international reputation in research in the environmental sciences affords it the largest group of environmental professionals of any university in Australia. Griffith also hosts the National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility, which was established at the end of 2007.

Its five campuses2 span three cities across Australia's fastest growing corridor from Brisbane to the Gold Coast. With more than 37000 students from more than 122 countries, Griffith is now Australia's ninth largest higher education institution in terms of student load.

James Cook University [JCU]

About JCU

One of the world's leading institutions focusing on the tropics, Australia's James Cook University is surrounded by the spectacular ecosystems of the rainforests of the Wet tropics, the dry savannahs, and the iconic Great Barrier Reef.

Our unique location enables students from Australia and overseas to study in a diverse physical environment unparalleled by any university in the world.

Born for the tropics

Ranked in the top five percent of the world's tertiary institutions by the respected Academic Ranking of World Universities produced by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University, James Cook University is dedicated to creating a brighter future for life in the tropics world-wide, through graduates and discoveries that make a difference.

Dedicated to research

The University conducts nationally significant and internationally recognised research in areas such as marine sciences, biodiversity, tropical ecology and environments, global warming, tourism, and tropical medicine and public health care in under-served populations.

A comprehensive university

Since our establishment in 1970, we have expanded into a multi-campus institution with our largest campuses in Townsville and Cairns, smaller study centres in Mount Isa, Thursday Island, and Mackay, and campuses in Singapore and Brisbane.

Our students come from many backgrounds, promoting a rich cultural and experiential diversity on campus. Our undergraduate and postgraduate courses span the Arts, Business, Creative Arts, Education, Engineering, Law, Medicine and Health Sciences, Science, Information Technology and Social Sciences. We aim to give graduates the qualifications and skills they need for the global workforce.

Relevant to our region

We also recognise our special obligation to be relevant to our own region and have forged close linkages into the economy and social fabric of the northern Queensland. We are dedicated to ensuring that our teaching, learning and research is not only of high quality, but also delivers practical benefits to the peoples and industries of the region.

Macquarie University [MACQUARIE]

Macquarie University [MACQUARIE]

Macquarie University

From the Vice-Chancellor

Professor Steven Schwartz
Professor Steven Schwartz

Macquarie University is on track to becoming one of Australia's leading research universities. It's our goal that by 2014 – our 50th anniversary – Macquarie will be among the top eight research universities in Australia and one of the top 200 in the world.

Macquarie has continued its rise up the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Academic Rankings of World Universities, moving up 17 places from 286th in the world in 2007 to 269th this year. Macquarie is currently ranked 9th in Australia.

To reach our goal we are investing heavily in research, learning and teaching, new buildings, new teaching facilities and in developing mutually beneficial relationships with industry.

We are busy employing top class research academic staff at the rate of more than 40 each year in order to build our capabilities in our 17 Concentrations of Research Excellence. These concentrations cover a diverse range of fields from Ancient History to Climate Change.

Alongside this research investment, we are rejuvenating our learning and teaching efforts, updating our curriculum and providing new volunteering experiences for students and staff.

Work has begun on a state-of-the-art library, a hospital with associated research facilities, and plans are underway for a new research complex. Old buildings are being refurbished while our exceptional swimming and sports complex recently opened its doors for business.

In addition to the above developments, a new train station is being built on campus and is expected to open early in 2009, boosting Macquarie's transport connections.

Macquarie's engagement with the nearby high-tech industry corridor is rapidly expanding. We are working to attract even more industry to the campus as participants in higher education. Our commercial agreements include obligations and responsibilities that tenants serve the research and teaching objectives of Macquarie, including through scholarships and work experience for students, research opportunities for staff, and new facilities for teaching and research.

And we continue to develop stronger relationships with our alumni, donors and other supporters who want to see Macquarie continue to flourish.

Vice-Chancellor and President

Vice Chancellor

Welcome to Swinburne University of Technology

Vice-Chancellor and President - Ian YoungI welcome you to Swinburne’s website and encourage you to take advantage of the many opportunities available at the University.

Swinburne has a strong history of providing quality, career-oriented education for both undergraduates and postgraduates. Swinburne graduates have the skills and knowledge that will help them find jobs and success in their careers.

In addition, Swinburne is one of the few Australian universities offering an extensive range of programs for school leavers including undergraduate degree programs as well as a wide range of TAFE programs. We also provide our students with a number of well-defined ‘pathways’ between our TAFE and Higher Education divisions.

The University also offers a wide range of postgraduate courses ranging from graduate certificates through to PhDs.

Swinburne’s strong vocational emphasis and our close links with industry ensure that our study programs keep pace with developments in the commercial and community sector. The University has a strong research focus that complements coursework programs.

Swinburne students and staff have access to a wide range of transport, sporting, computer, library and student welfare facilities at each campus. You can find more information about these facilities on this website.
